Simple CAN be Effective – Your Home Plumber

Marc Maher of Your Home Plumber in Orange County, CA came to me with an idea. He wanted to appeal to the non-decision makers in the house – the children. His reasoning was that kids would see his truck going down the street and ask their parents about it. The parents would have an emotional connection to the logo through the excitement of their children and when it came time to call a plumber (a traditionally UNfun call to make), they would remember the cute little plunger on the truck and call him.

We created this fun graphic representing a “home” and a plunger along with bright colors traditionally used in kids graphics. What Marc didn’t expect was the positive reaction he’s gotten from the ADULTS! Here is what Marc’s wife had to say:

“I really do think that you have played a big role in helping our business grow. I wish you could hear and see (thumbs up) all the reactions we have gotten from our logo. It is so amazing that it appeals to both men and women. That is the part that is really a huge success. Marc was so concerned with pulling in the women clientele. But he had no idea the positive reaction he would get from all the other plumbers. AMAZING!  I couldn’t believe it when I took a ride in Marc’s truck after he got the professional wrap done on it, and someone drove by and honked with a “thumbs-up” gesture. And Marc told me that that wasn’t the first time he has had that reaction. So cool! I have to say… Thank you, Tammi, for helping our company be a success!” – Jennifer Maher
I get shivers just reading that! The logo makes a statement, yet it’s simple and memorable. The simple solution is often right in front of you and if done right, good branding CAN attract more business.

The Traveling Twiga

The Traveling TwigaMarjaana Seilonen of Ordinary Women, an organization that funds the digging of wells in some of the most desperate regions of Africa, has been a client for many years. When she decided to start a Safari company in Africa to help fund her trips and various projects, I jumped at the chance to help.
“Twiga” is the name for “giraffe” in Africa. Taken directly from her Discovery Questionnaire (the way I start all design projects with my clients), Marjaana said “…Giraffes are gracious, kind, social, captivating, regal, they stand tall, after all they are the tallest animal on earth … everybody loves giraffes.” So “The Traveling Twiga” was the perfect name for her new venture and a giraffe was the perfect icon to represent the name. Once again, keeping it simple has paid off.
Here is what Marjaana had to say about her African adventure taken shortly after the logo was completed:
“You may know that I have started a safari tour company, The Traveling Twiga – African Safaris and Tours with a Purpose. In addition to the custom made safari at destinations of their choice, I do expose the tourist to humanitarian projects and have them meet real people away from tourism. My hope and prayer is that God will touch their hearts when they are faced with real needs of real people and they’ll see how anybody can make a difference, including them.
Well, that prayer was answered with my very first clients! I took them to Kitale and introduced them to our orphan program and Tumaini and a school (one of them was a teacher). The result is that all of them are now sponsoring an orphan, the teacher will be organizing a school to school aid program with her school here helping this rural Kenyan school and another traveler is getting a matching grant from her place of employment to benefit our programs!” – Marjaana Seilonen, The Traveling Twiga

I feel very blessed to have been part of this venture – even if in a small way. Check out her site here for more information: The Traveling Twiga
